The theme for this year is "Don't Miss A Beat" and aims to raise awareness around cardiovascular disease. One of the best ways to promote heart health is by going smoke and vape free.
Once you stop smoking, after:
- 20 minutes, your blood pressure starts to lower
- 8 hours, your risk of heart attack starts to fall
- 12 weeks, it is easier for your heart to pump
- 1 year, your risk of heart attack falls to half that of someone who smokes
- 15 years, your risk of a heart attack drops to that of someone who has never smoked
