Druckmann confirms that the Fireflies could have made a cure, although the science behind it wasn’t explored in depth in the game.
“All I can say is, our intent was that they would have made a cure — that makes the most interesting philosophical question for what Joel does.”

Hey guys! We’re aware of an oopsie where we accidentally put episode 5 audio out again instead of the new one, should have that corrected later today. Sorry about that!

I care a lot about the distinction Joel made in response to Ellie saying what he did was selfish. I totally get why people would say that, and many people have. But selfishness was not at all at the root of what Joel was feeling when he did what he did, and I’ve always believed that. “Because I love you.” Joel was willing to sacrifice everything, even the relationship he cherished most, even if it made himself miserable, because of a love so strong you can’t rationalize it, or weigh it against anything - or even, everything. That’s what this story is all about. #TheLastOfUs -T
