Today marks the 64th birthday of Dr. Gulshan Abbas, her 8th consecutive birthday spent unjustly imprisoned by the Chinese Communist Party. The Commission stands with her Defending Freedoms Advocate, @RepRoKhanna in demanding an end to this brutal repression and her release.

Convicted in a secret, one-day trial that denied them due process, human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari & Hadi Ali Chattha face more delays. Last week, the Islamabad High Court postponed their hearing because the prosecution failed to show up. Pakistan must release them now.

Freedom House urges the Omani authorities to immediately release Egyptian activist Mariam Mohamed El-Sayed Abdel Basette from custody and refrain from returning her to Egypt where she is likely to face politically motivated criminal charges for her online activism. Mariam’s detention- which apparently stems from Egypt’s abuse of Interpol - is a clear case of #transnationalrepression that must not be allowed to escalate.

🛑Law and Democracy Support Foundation expresses grave concern over the arbitrary detention of activist #Mariam_AbdelBasette (31)—a mother of two minors and a newborn—held as a "prisoner" inside an Omani military hospital without legal basis.
⚠️ Transnational Repression & Grave Violations: Mariam faces fabricated State Security charges and documented physical threats solely for her peaceful online commentary. Her husband was already forcibly deported to #Egypt via a verbal INTERPOL request and has since disappeared.
⚖️ Her International Lawyer, @BenCAKeith, warned: "Mariam’s case bears every hallmark of transnational repression. She has been detained shortly after giving birth, held alongside her newborn, and denied any meaningful explanation of the legal basis for her treatment. Her husband was removed to Egypt in precisely this way, and the risk that Mariam will follow is real and immediate."
