Tweeting about a range of stuff - and not following an arbitrary 'party line' on anything - means I end up with followers who might be disappointed that I'm not a cheerleader for 'their team' (regardless of the topic). So, thanks for following, but consider yourselves warned :)

The graph below with its non-existent parties caused much mirth. But the analysis in the article has a number of faults including assertions about strong flows of Green preferences to One Nation at the SA election. Link in the following post.

If you want evidence that the Superannuation system is ridiculously complex, check out the detail in this article. It's a boondoggle (a series of them, really) which needs to be seriously addressed.

Huge win on lobbying reform today with reports the govt will establish a public register for sponsored pass holders replicating the voluntary register I established, limit access to the building & publish more information about who has access. We still need more reform to ensure ALL lobbyists (not just 3rd party lobbyists) are properly regulated by a body with teeth, and to shut the revolving door between government and industries. smh.com.au/politics/federal/…

Many of ON's policies and people are amateurish and will diminish our Parliament. But the blame for ON's rise sits *squarely* on the majors who didn't listen and didn't change. They set the table. And the country might pay for their hubris. That's the really maddening thing.

And in case it isn't clear - I've been accused of being an LNP shill and a Labor 'fanboy' - I won't be voting for One Nation. My comment is simply an observation.

Waleed Aly nails the rise of One Nation. Bottom line: the voters aren't voting *for* One Nation as much as they are voting *against* incumbents and 'the system'. Those saying they can't win are making the same mistake as those who wrote off Trump. They might not, but they can.

Emotional scenes tonight. Classy from both the Bunnies and the Broncs. Hard to see the footy as important. Wishing Jai Arrow all the best. #NRLRabbitohsBroncos

And a fabulous touch to wear different jerseys by the Bunnies, with Arrow's name on the back.

Gotta say, the One Nation 'Policies' page is a helluva read. Clearly written by different people with different agendas, and with plenty of 'I reckon' thrown in. Also, 4 or 5 (depending how you count them) 'policies' on energy and the environment.

They also apparently want to 'encourage home schooling'. I mean, if it's right for a kid, I'm all for it, but it doesn't need to be 'encouraged' by a party or government.

Bottom line? They have some 'policies' that resonate with people, especially those who are despondent or feel (and/or are) less well off than they used to be / expect to be. But there is a *lot* of dross there.

We are seeing the maths of inflation, rates, and tax changes play out, but *also* potentially a change in expectations and psychology which could have a bigger impact on house prices. If buyers expect prices to fall, they may hold off - causing or exacerbating those falls.

The major parties have made a colossal mistake, only too well known by investors and business people: They focused on their competitors, rather than their customers. That means you miss changing customer attitudes, and leave yourself exposed to new competition.

If Minns doesn't have a tilt at Canberra, I'll be flabbergasted. He's getting more cut through than the Federal party.
Wow! Who knew that Chris Minns had that in him?? I did not! #NSWpol Watch: NSW Premier nails perfect Donald Trump impression dailytelegraph.com.au/newslo…

If you're wondering (partly) why people are so dissatisfied, here's why: 1. GDP-per-capita summary (Gemini, using ABS data) 2. Housing affordability, measured as % of income required to pay for it, via AIHW. 3. Real wages, which have cratered since 2021, via ABS.
I presume the colour of the 2025 bar is coincidental... but perhaps its not. This discontent is ON's primary electoral driver, IMO. (They might cite inflation, or housing, or other things, but as I've said before, I think it sums up to 'I thought things would be better'.)

They will blame different things: governments, population growth, banks, central banks, landlords... ... and I suspect all of them have contributed. Inaction on fixing the problems (and in some cases making it worse) by governments means the field is left wide open.

And even when you see those changing attitudes, you still frame your response in 'beating the other guy', rather than 'delighting the customer'. It is Business 101. It should have been Politics 101. They may pay for it. The country might, too.
