Very unfortunate to see the two recent Myanmar related detainments so quickly and foolishly lumped together by some media outlets. Very different people, very different situations.

Some seemingly new details, yet to be confirmed, from regime media on charges against American businessman in Yangon. (Assume the billions means kyat.)
Adam Castillo, a former head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar arrested not for political reasons, but financial misconduct -----#WhatsHappeningInMyanmar In reality, during his tenure as Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar from 2023 to 2025, Adam Castillo misused the association’s name to illegally collect over billions from some member companies for his personal gain. -----@washingtonpost Because of this, the affected member companies filed a police report and sued him. He was arrested on charges of breach of trust (embezzlement).

It is deeply unfortunate to learn of the tragic incident aboard the Palau-flagged MT Settebello. Sadly, three Indian seafarers initially reported missing are now confirmed dead after bodies have been located and identified. This is a profound loss to our maritime family. The Modi Govt stands firmly with the bereaved during this difficult hour and is fully committed to supporting the next of kin. I have directed officials to ensure immediate repatriation of the rescued crew members and swift return of the mortal remains of the deceased for their final rites.

Again, comical that people were boo hooing about the U.S. no longer deeming foreign elections fair or credible. Well overdue to stop that ridiculous tradition.

Just finished @BarbaraDemick's book this week. A remarkable feat of reporting and fantastic writing.
Deep admiration for @BarbaraDemick and the Chinese novelist Fang Fang, winners of the @AsiaSociety @chinabksreview Baifang Schell Book Prize. A great event tonight in NY. Fang Fang, whose books are banned in the PRC, was not able to leave China to accept her award.

Some ASEAN countries will follow Thailand's lead here, then ASEAN will and this will give countries outside of ASEAN a path to normalization (ish). Side note, Myanmar has not been isolated since 2021 as he says and despite what ppl write is not a pariah. channelnewsasia.com/asia/mya…
