I don’t do this. But I’m doing this. Vicente, the man who raised me (my mom’s brother, the father figure I never had) was diagnosed with prostate cancer three months ago. He showed up for me every single time and never asked for anything in return. He’s 67, lives in Ecuador, and spent the last few years going through 3 kidney stone surgeries that wiped out his savings. He recently underwent a laser procedure to remove obstructive tissue blocking his urethra caused by the tumor. Now he’s facing a preliminary procedure to place radiation markers and a protective rectal spacer gel, followed by 25 sessions of radiation therapy. And he has nothing left in the tank financially. He would never ask for help. So I’m asking for him. If you can donate anything, it will go directly toward his treatment. I receive it in the US and transfer it to him in Ecuador. He’s one of the proudest people I know, but cancer doesn’t care about pride, and I’m not willing to watch him make treatment decisions based on what he can afford rather than what he needs.
