Our latest collaboration with the @Gassensmith lab shows the value of taking porous materials in new directions, and the importance of creating new structures. Congrats to Yalini (@yaliniwijesund2), Niyati (@NiyatiA30), Ryanne (@RyanneEhrman) and everyone!

It's almost poetic that I get to share this work on the day of my doctoral hooding — my fifth first-author paper is now out in @ACS_Infectious! Here, we report two new membrane protein tuberculosis antigens and explore their immunogenicity. Read here: pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.102…

Now that the celebrations are over and I finally have time to make this post, I am happy to announce that I defended last Tuesday and have a fancy schmancy PhD to show for it! I can't believe my 3.5 years in Dallas zoomed by so fast and it's already time for the next adventure.

Really interesting paper in Nature Immunology today (Broquet et al.) They found that people who recover from sepsis have a reduced cancer risk in the years that follow (vs. matched people with non-septic infections): This was recapitulated in a controlled setting in mice - mice that recover from sepsis suppress tumours better than uninfected mice: The mechanism depends on immune reprogramming in sepsis: macrophages trained during sepsis recruit and establish tissue-resident T cells, which go on to perform long-term cancer surveillance There's a lot more detail in the paper: nature.com/articles/s41590-0…
