We’re going to be advocating for 1) info about Go Slow zones on the subway and streetcar systems 2) a project to eliminate Go Slows at intersections and switches 3) upgrades to dual blade switches 4) upgrades of control software to include positive feedback of switch position

This issue has to be confronted. The old switches require extra staff and slow service speeds. The capital plans needs to start the replacement with modern switches in a meaningful way.
Toronto has almost no faith in its switches or signals. This man is here all day managing this switch which they either didn’t fix, or can’t rely on…failure means nobody can get out of the FIFA exclusion zone. Why don’t we do this everyday? Or just get more reliable switches?

Why wouldn’t we just do this all the time?

A new investigation from me: When GO trains break ‘cardinal rules,’ Ontario keeps investigations secret Leaked documents show the vast majority of critical Metrolinx safety investigations are handled only by the agency itself. #onpoli thetrillium.ca/news/the-tril…

Seems sub-optimal...
This is how close two GO trains came to colliding head-on in 2024.

Lol...
Work by the City of Toronto to improve Line 5 Eglinton and Line 6 Finch West LRT trip times has been progressing for months, but the full potential of transit signal priority measures isn't likely to be realized until the end of 2026. toronto.citynews.ca/2026/06/…

They can do it on the subway. Wonder if they can do it on the streetcar system? x.com/ttcswitches/status/206…

(1/3) Subway service on Line 1 between Lawrence West and Wilson stations will operate on a single track today due to structural maintenance. ⚠️Service will continue at slower than usual speed 🚆Trains will be delayed up to 25 minutes between stations 🚌Shuttle buses will operate

Hopefully it’s a recruitment problem. Would give much more oomph to efforts to automate the parts of the system that can be (subway).

Replying to @TTCSwitches
With this they could use the existing underpass on Cherry St. and save millions.

In general, the people in charge don't know what ETCS is, or why they need it...and they are mostly busy dealing with the best way to spin the news that they almost crashed a train (more than once)...which they kinda understand as something that could have ruined their day...
GO Transit is supposed to be deploying European Train Control System (ETCS) across its network to avoid accidents like this, and allow more frequency. Instead rollout has been severely delayed, and does not seem to be a priority for @Metrolinx.

Seems like a no brainer.
A new report is renewing calls for stronger rail safety measures after more than 400 GO Transit passengers narrowly avoided a catastrophic train collision in Burlington, Ont., in 2024. globalnews.ca/news/11888621/… #onpoli

We'll just add that oversight from the federal government of GO should be mandatory...

The TTC Board seems to have stymied @BradMBradford platform doors motion from last month at council. Instead of developing a 10 year funded plan, we will be developing a 10 year *costed* plan - which is essentially what we have now...an unfunded plan... Funding where possible indicates to staff that they should deprioritize this project... This likely means we won't see any platform doors built...and we won't get any proposals for how to fund them going forward. This is a backwards way of saying they don't want to get creative with funding, and will wait for the province or federal government to mandate them, or give them money to build them. No way to operate a safe system.

Until July…when they will find even more issues…
Today, #TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali and COO Fort Monaco detailed upcoming subway repair work on the Spadina side of Line 1 that will eliminate four reduced speed zones by June 9. Learn more at ttc.ca/news/2026/June/Critic…

Fun
#TTC Line 2 closure (Jane to Ossington) update: crews are making strong progress on track switch replacement at Keele. Overnight, the old switch was removed and the new switch installed. Today, teams are installing new rails and switch components. This is critical state‑of‑good‑repair work to keep service safe and reliable.

lol…every time you think something transit related is bad in Toronto you find out it’s way worse in New York…
MTA bus fare enforcement “EAGLE teams” have begun to conduct some fare inspections on moving buses — departing from the MTA’s longstanding, frustrating practice of forcing riders to wait on stopped buses while fare inspectors check one-by-one if they paid. nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/05/…
