Yesterday morning, we teamed up with Barnsley College for our second GBSC event! This time, we worked with two larger groups of students, carrying out two mass litter blitzes around the college sites.

Wednesday afternoon, we teamed up with 3 volunteers from Poggy Pickers at Stanley Street Backings. Together, we tackled the area by litter picking, scraping, and cutting back overgrowth.
✅ 26 purple bags of mixed waste collected!
Great effort by everyone involved! 👏

Yesterday, we met a new volunteer at St Peters Terrace and together we litter picked the surrounding area, collecting 6 purple bags.
In the afternoon, we met with the owner of Sure4Pets on Beech Street, where we tackled litter collecting 6 more purple bags.

On Wednesday morning, we met with 4 dedicated volunteers at Mount Street backings to tackle the area! 💪

✅ Cut back overhanging branches
A much cleaner, safer, and more accessible backings! A fantastic effort, 20 sacks of mixed waste.

Yesterday, we joined a volunteer and litter picked on both sides of the bypass and along the footpath behind Mel's Snack Cabin, collecting 8 purple bags of litter! Then we cut back the overhanging bushes from Higham Lane, making the walkway safer and more accessible for everyone.

Last week, we joined volunteers at Hollygate Wooded Area for a productive session! First, we tackled a litter pick, then moved on to cutting back overgrowth to help keep the area under control.
Rather than disposing of the 'green waste', we repurposed it into wildlife habitats♻️

Last Wednesday, we met with 10 volunteers, including a local councillor, at Lewden Springs. Together, we tackled litter in the surrounding area, and we opened up the entrance to the Trans Pennine Trail to improve access. 42 purple bags collected! 💜

🌿 Upcycling Wooden Pallets 🌿
On Friday we picked up a load of wooden pallets kindly donated by Egener8. 🙌 These pallets were delivered to the The Carer’s Garden - Barnsley, who we’re supporting to create window box planters. 🌸🪴

At Dodworth Miners Welfare we got stuck into a productive session to tidy up the car park by cutting back overgrowth etc. 🌟

Monday morning, we met a new volunteer at Sunderland Terrace! We cut back overhanging brambles while our volunteer carried out a litter pick around the surrounding area. 🗑️
To help them continue independently, we provided a picking stick and some sacks.

❄️Despite the snowy weather, we’ve been dropping off and collecting tonne sacks filled with leaves gathered by volunteers. These donated leaves are being repurposed into compost, with some heading to local community allotments. We have also donated some more shredded paper🌱
