So... the Spurs double down and say Fox IS the franchise, and Harper is just a piece on a team.

They can offer him. He can seek better and MORE elsewhere. It's not hard to understand.
Spurs with Wemby and Castle super max, and Fox contract. Along with CJ McCollum CBA. Spurs will not be able to MATCH and insane contracts from another team who needs a star.
Example Spurs offer (random numbers) 4 years team option 5 for 140 for 4 and 175 for 5. Another team with cap without two super max and without Fox contract. Could offer a straight 5 for 210. The Spurs won't match that due to CJ McCollum CBA. Maybe research that before speaking. See Spurs past spending history before speaking. CJ aprons, if still around after next CBA, prevents Spurs from keeping im at this current time... sorry.

Technically, it's 8 years. Also, that's based on #Spurs wanting/being able to match what a team offers. After 4 years (3 years from now), the Spurs can offer a contract (qualifying offer). Making him an RFA. Harper can still negotiate with other teams, and the Spurs have a right to match. However, there will be team(s) that will make a stupid and insane offers. The Spurs will not be able to match with Wemby and Castle Super Max contracts.
CJ McCollum made it clear that as player president, he does NOT want teams to retain their draft picks via aprons. Hints why it was put in current CBA. He was so salty he couldn't beat GSW. He literally built a law to make sure homegrown has to go.
Unless NBA CBA corrects CJ saltiness. It is what it is.

Youve seen me all year and in playoffs. Say, he is an awful coach. He got the job due to a Pop stroke. Kept job cause Wemby got a clot, "so let's give him another try."
Has a 50 win roster with Wemby/Castle/Harper. In a league where half the teams are trash. That's not a good coach. That's a good roster.
