TargetBay is a dynamic ecommerce marketing platform helping retailers and brands grow organic traffic, drive more conversions & scale their online businesses.
Want your Black Friday email actually seen? Send it at 1 PM. ⏰
According to an analysis of 5,025 BF emails from 1,404 brands, inbox space is tight: 91% land in Promotions and only 1.53% hit Primary. Timing helps. The strongest window is 1–3 PM local time, with 1 PM driving the most inbox placements. Avoid 4–5 PM, where spam risk spikes.
Plan your cadence:
- Warm engaged subscribers on Monday and Thursday.
- Anchor your main send Friday 1–3 PM, staggered by time zone and engagement.
- Keep subject lines clean. Go easy on “now,” “deals,” “Sale,” “Save,” “free,” “exclusive,” “buy.” Test no-emoji variants (45.9% of spammed emails used emojis).
- Mind deliverability basics: SPF, DKIM, DMARC, sunset unengaged, ramp volume.

Friday 1 PM is your Black Friday edge. 🕐
We analyzed 5,025 emails from 1,404 brands. Friday wins. Best window is 1–3 PM, with a clear peak at 1 PM. Inbox placement hits 14.29% at 1 PM; 5 PM is 9.09% and overlaps with spam hours.
Monday is busy but riskier. Spam is 12.25% on Monday vs 4.31% on Friday. If you must send Monday, skip 4–5 PM (12.30% and 11.48% spam). And watch frequency: high-frequency senders saw 1.32% inbox and 3.40% spam.
- Anchor your broad blast Friday 1–3 PM (local time).
- Keep copy tight: ~45-char subject, 18–20-word preview, ~2-word CTA; rotate off “Shop now.”
- Segment and suppress non-openers after two sends.

Your Black Friday email doesn’t need 20 sends — it needs strategy.
Across thousands of campaigns we analyzed for this year’s BFCM playbook, one pattern kept showing up:
Brands that sent fewer but smarter emails drove higher revenue, better click-throughs, and stronger deliverability. Messaging clarity beat send volume every single time.
Here’s what separated the top performers:
Personalization wasn’t optional. Brands using tailored copy, segmented offers, and personalized product blocks stood out fast.
Value-first Teasers worked. Early sends that previewed discounts — without over-revealing — warmed audiences better than generic “Coming Soon” blasts.
Bundle-based offers won mid-sale. High-intent shoppers converted best on curated bundles, “Pick 2 / Pick 3” deals, or free gift unlocks.
Urgency worked only when honest. The campaigns using real inventory limits, real countdowns, and clear offer expiry had the highest late-cycle conversion lift.
Gift Guides were a sleeper hit. Niche guides (For Him / For Her / Under $50) drove high engagement, especially for AOV-boosting clicks.
Across every high-performing sequence, the message was consistent:
Make your email feel useful, predictable, and easy to act on — not loud.
As the clock ticks toward BFCM 2025, thoughtful planning will beat flooding the inbox. 📈

Black Friday isn’t won on Black Friday—it’s won in the teaser window. ⏳
After analyzing 5,025 emails from 1,404 brands, the shift is clear: teasers are starting earlier (about 11 days in 2024 → ~30 days in 2025) and they shape whether the rest of your sequence converts. Teasers are just 14.45% of sends, but they warm your list, segment intent, and prime clicks.
Keep it practical:
- Plan a compact sequence: ~3 emails over 5 days.
- Teaser ~7–10 days before launch with one promise, one preview, one soft CTA (waitlist/wishlist). Only 1.07% use soft CTAs—low pressure helps engagement and reduces unsubscribes.
- Promotions tab is normal (84.29% of teasers). Avoid spam (13.14% risk) by being specific, consistent, and engagement-led.
- Evolve subject lines: neutral → specific offer → urgent last chance.

3 emails. 5 days. That’s how winning Black Friday sequences actually looked in 2024.
TargetBay’s analysis (3,275 BF emails across 881 brands) shows efficiency beats volume. Give each send a job: warm with a Teaser, sell hard in the Main Sale, close clean with Last‑Chance. And don’t chase the Primary tab—clarity converts in Promotions.
- Phase mix: Main Sale dominated 76.40% of sends; Teasers 14.45%; Reminders 6.13%; Last‑Chance 3.54%.
- Inbox reality: Promotions placement was the norm (Main Sale 91.92%). Lead with the number, confirm in preheader, make “why now” obvious.
- Post‑BF: Follow‑ups hit ~1.81 days later. 18.22% used reactivation language; 24.13% extended into Cyber Monday. Segment click‑no‑purchase vs. buyers and adjust offers.
Match tone to the clock—neutral early, offer‑led mid, honest urgency at the end. 📈

Only 1.53% of Black Friday emails hit the primary inbox. The rest land in Promotions (91.18%) or Spam (7.28%).
The fix isn’t magic. It’s timing, mix, and expectations. Start ~15 days out. Early sends see a 3.45% inbox rate—so warm your domain, clean your list, and ramp volume before the rush. In peak week, plan for Promotions dominance (99% ). Design for fast scanning and clear CTAs.
Send when it counts. 🕐 1 PM local shows a 14.29% inbox rate. Add an evening wave to catch post-work shoppers.
Match message to deliverability:
- Lead with general/storewide offers (2.01% and 0.93% inbox).
- Save doorbusters/urgency for peak.
- Keep category promos to known engagers only.
Close strong with tight segments (cart, repeat, loyalty) and support with SMS for opted-in shoppers.

Spam triggers cost you 7.28% of Black Friday sales.
Here’s how to avoid them:
1. Skip overused emojis and all-caps subject lines. They scream "spam" to email filters.
2. Vague subject lines like “Exclusive Deal Coming Soon” get flagged.
3. Stick to specific, value-driven language: “40% OFF Today Only!”
Don't let your emails get lost in spam!

Watching carts vanish? Here’s the playbook to bring them back—without racing to discounts. 🛒
Start with a 3-email cadence: 1 hour, 24 hours, 72 hours. Personalize beyond first name: show exact items, size/color, loyalty status. Lead with reassurance. Use soft urgency first; save a small incentive for the last touch—ideally loyalty points to protect margins.
Make the click easy. Mobile-first layout, single column, clear “Resume Checkout” CTA above the fold. Add product-specific reviews to lower anxiety.
Subject lines that earn opens: product outcome, time reason, or question benefit. Test one variable at a time and keep a control.
Don’t skip the plumbing: authenticate (SPF/DKIM, consider DMARC), include a working unsubscribe, cap frequency, suppress recent purchasers. On Shopify or Squarespace, map dynamic cart data and segment by cart value or new vs. returning.
