Does anyone know if WIDA ever published the outcomes of the WIDA-CEFR correlation project work from January? I remember at the time summer was mentioned as the expected timeline. Have I missed it somewhere? @NordmeyerJ @ancatoma12 @WIDA_UW

Far too many popular strategies for teaching reading are not actually supported by research. We sifted through to find the ones that are most effective.

My son was termed a “reluctant reader” in KINDERGARTEN and I watched him give up on school as his teacher said comics were getting in the way of literacy. Was given awful boring nonsensical Bob books instead. He WANTED to read comics, with built-in scaffolding, engagement, and confidence building literature. I went back to school to be a reading specialist and wrote my masters paper on using comics and pop culture to create deep and analytical readers and writers. I now give this professional development around the country so that no one else has to face an “educator” like my son did. Reading is reading. Comics = literature.
My son is now in high school. He LOVES to read because he went to the comics store with me every week. It was a special outing each Wednesday that was all about the love of literature. We always read together. Now - we still do the exact same thing. Comics = literacy.

Yay, new books! 📚 I make it a point to not *only* have books for my EAL students in my class library. Any student can find a book to read in my room-helps eliminate stigma around language learning and ‘the EAL classroom’. All students come to read or work in my room. #mll #ell

We should not resort to a dichotomous view of conversational and academic language. Students need and use both. Understanding how conversational and academic proficiencies develop is crucial to supporting #multilingual learners. #edutwitter #EAL #MLs

. @canva is making great advances that are helpful to teachers of English Learners.
Game changer. @Canva translate just saved me hours. I uploaded a pdf in English and translated it into Spanish and Vietnamese in under a minute.

A brilliant application of #chatGPT in the classroom: My daughter’s 10th grade social studies teacher assigned a position paper and gave all students a ChatGPT created version to use as their basis. Students use ‘suggest’ mode to revise & find and cite sources.

This teacher has: * preempted temptation to use ChatGPT to ‘cheat’ * provided a writing scaffold for all students to build from * provided a model text for all students regarding the academic language and writing structure of the discipline and topic ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #teachertwitter
