Mills was located safe!

On June 10, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m., deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of West 3rd Street and Duval Street. During the stop, deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle and located suspected narcotics. Kristen Williams (39) was placed under arrest during the investigation. While in a patrol vehicle, Williams began experiencing a medical emergency and exhibited signs consistent with an overdose. Deputies and St. Johns County Fire Rescue personnel immediately initiated life-saving measures on scene. Williams was then transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. The incident remains under active investigation by the SJSO Major Crimes Unit. No further information is available at this time.

SJSO patrol units responded to a delayed theft of a young lady’s bicycle yesterday. She explained the bike was her primary mode of transportation for the summer and without hesitating, Deputy James, Deputy Myers and Deputy Sharp took initiative in helping this family. With our great partners at Walmart, to include one of their employees, Isaac, they all chipped in their own money to replace the stolen bike with a brand new one! SJSO PSA’s also assisted in the special delivery. Great team effort to those involved in making this teenagers day!

#TeamSJSO enjoyed connecting with our neighbors at the Community, Coffee, & Cops event in Nocatee this weekend. We are lucky to serve such a welcoming community who continually supports first responders.

SJSO SWAT recently conducted its annual training at Camp Blanding in partnership with the Multijurisdictional Counterdrug Task Force Training Team. During this training, team members, support personnel, and medics utilized specialized equipment in response to simulated high-risk scenarios involving armed suspects, hostages, and breaching structures. SWAT team training is essential to ensuring the team's readiness during an emergency response that requires quick decision making to stop threats and protect the community. #TeamSJSO

Meet SJSOs newest K9 team: K9 Draco & Deputy Mourao! K9 Draco is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, certified with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in Patrol and Narcotics Detection. SJSO Forensics and Traffic Units partnered with @FBIJacksonville and National Transportation Safety Board (@NTSB) this week for a joint training exercise. The teams worked through a full-scale exercise simulating a mass-casualty incident using scene-mapping technology and evidence collection processes. Trainings like this strengthen interagency coordination, preparedness, and investigative skills needed to protect our community. #TeamSJSO

SJSO Property Crimes detectives have arrested and charged Youwei Hsu (24) with Organized Scheme to Defraud, Grand Theft, and Elderly Exploitation. On May 20, 2026, SJSO Property Crimes detectives began conducting a fraud investigation involving an elderly St. Johns County resident interacting with individuals on a communication app. The victim provided an initial $20,000 to enter the investment scheme, and between February and May 2026, contributed an additional $75,000 in cash towards a larger outstanding payment to an individual who traveled in person to collect the money. During this time, the victim believed their investment was growing, but instead, was furthering themselves in a scam. In May, an individual, later identified as Taiwanese national and suspect, Youwei Hsu, traveled to the victim's home and accepted $226,000 worth of gold bars and coins as payment the victim allegedly owed. Through investigative efforts, PCU detectives determined Hsu traveled to Miami-Dade County, where he was located by law enforcement. Hsu is in custody at the St. Johns County Jail on $750,000 bond. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard is dedicated to honoring and remembering those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. As the agency’s ceremonial unit, the team represents SJSO at community and memorial events throughout the State of Florida and the country. The Honor Guard has 24 members, including civilian personnel and sworn law enforcement and corrections staff, who uphold the highest standards and professionalism in every ceremony they perform. #TeamSJSO

This Memorial Day, #TeamSJSO is honoring the U.S. Military heroes who lost their lives while defending our country. May we always remember their courage and dedication to protecting our freedoms. #memorialday

The suspect, Derrick Walden (44), in the shooting deaths of Cody Bennett (21) and Tre’ Lyons (22) in November 2023, has been arrested and transferred from federal custody to the St. Johns County Jail. Walden is charged with two counts of First-Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
