I wrote up my COMPUTEX 2026 takeaways.
It was my first COMPUTEX, and I expected AI to be everywhere. I did not expect it to be almost everything.
I also found mini PCs, NAS hardware, KVMs, Noctua, Seasonic, Sparkle, and Open Source Taiwan.

I wanted to see how good local AI has actually gotten, so I built a mini AI cluster on my desk and tested it with a real coding workflow.
vLLM, OpenCode, NCCL, power monitoring, and open weight models.

Just a heads up if you are updating Proxmox to kernel 7.0.0-3-pve. Some LXCs might not be compatible with that kernel version. This is the first time I have run into this but figured I would mention it in case you are wondering why some of your LXC services might be crashing after that update. VMs of course are not affected because they are fully isolated.
To be clear you should update to the latest kernel, just be sure to check your LXCs afterwards.
For desktop:
- GNOME 50 is part of the new baseline
- better Wayland and NVIDIA polish
fractional scaling is on by default
- better snap integration with desktop permissions and file access
- updated default apps, including Ptyxis and the new Resources system monitor
For server:
- new LTS base
- Chrony is now the default time sync service on new installs
- OpenSSH gets security and behavior changes
- updated Subiquity installer
- crash dumps are now enabled by default
Finally revisiting my colo for the first time since the original install.
I kept joking that I was almost hoping something would break so I'd have an excuse to go back, but instead I just upgraded it.
Honestly, much better outcome.
My backups are too fast, I had to slow them down. Every night at 03:00:41 one of my Kubernetes clusters would lose quorum and freak out.
Turns out it's disk IO and etcd is sensitive to latency. I always knew this but didn't really consider backups causing too much IO.
I had to slow them down. Pretty cool that you can do this in Proxmox.
Everything I’m self-hosting in 2026 is live. Full breakdown from Proxmox TrueNAS K8S and all the way up through the apps.
What are you hosting right now?

Last night I had a dream that I traveled back in time to 2003. I couldn't figure out where I parked my DeLorean so I was stuck there.
The scariest thing about being in 2003 in my dream was that when I looked at my phone it said I was connected at 3G.
