Inaccessibility is not caused by disability. Inaccessibility is caused by ableism, barriers and exclusion.

3/ Now some advocacy. We need more women’s para hockey players and teams from three more countries. It’s past time to add women’s para hockey to the Paralympics. Let’s all dedicate ourselves to that achievable goal.

2/ i find myself completely conflicted. Who do i root for? My easy answer is that I’m rooting for both of these great teams. But if I have to choose, I am casting my lot with Team Canada, a team I have gotten to know with a great coach - @Teec15. So go Canada!

Store worker: “If you weren’t in a wheelchair, you could get in. Can someone help you?” Stop blaming disabled people for lack of access. Stop expecting disabled people to provide their own access & accommodation. The onus for access and accommodation is on the excluder.

The mindset for how to build a pro sports franchise in this modern era is to start first foremost with the players. Compelling player-centric storytelling is crucial for building a true community around your team. From @weareangelcity to @WeAreLAGC

Fascinating: French team sponsor, @Orange, transposed the bodies of famous men's players over footage of the women's game to illustrate the women's athleticism. youtu.be/YjHTAabg6_0

For disabled people, inaccessibility is not neutral or an oversight, it is exclusion. It is the equivalent of posting a “Keep Out” sign to disabled people.

Access for disabled people doesn’t come from generosity. It comes from the blood, sweat and tears of disabled people fighting for it.

Husband played for Canada for 10 years & travelled the world. Inspired the next gen of disabled athletes. Most common phrase in news stories..."Derek Whitson, 2-time Paralympian suffers from cerebral palsy..." If you know Derek you know this is not how he describes his CP.
Nondisabled people devalue disabled lives way more than disabled people devalue our own lives. The quality of a disabled person’s life should be determined by disabled people.

Sadly, there are those who feel that disabled people should provide accommodation and access for ourselves. Such arguments defy reason. Disabled people have to navigate an exclusionary environment created by others. Those who created barriers must be responsible for undoing them.
