Three suggestions for real PBM reform.
1. Payers are NOT allowed to own PBMs.
2.PBMs are not allowed to own pharmacies; this includes brick-and-mortar, mail-order, or specialty pharmacies.
3. PBMs are not allowed to own GPOs.
Of course, the other issues that need to be included are:
No spread pricing, fees not tied to the costs of the meds, must pay the pharmacies adequate reimbursements, end direct and indirect fees, not allowed to make formularies and predatory audits.
Walgreens is failing because of one issue: they don't own a PBM. The PBMs are in control of our drug delivery market, and yet they add no value. It is time to end this practice, and the politicians should return all the money they took from the PBM lobby.
