Elon Musk is now worth $1.3 Trillion dollars and he's using it to build a sustainable economy in space. What a waste. If that money was given to the government instead, we could build 4.5 miles of high speed rail 20 years from now.

I think $SPCX is currently overvalued. I would estimate it's worth around $1.5T right now based on what I would guess the company can make assuming they can achieve $1T of revenue by 2027 and assuming a low profit margin. I jumped in on IPO hype and made my money, I'm out today.

This company lost $5 billion last year. What makes it worth $2.5T right now?

Taxing billionaires doesn't grow the pie. It moves slices of the pie through a government filter that consumes a significant portion in administration, bureaucracy, political favoritism, and waste. Growing the pie means creating more value, more productivity, more innovation, and more wealth than existed before. Redistribution changes who has the pie. Production changes the size of the pie.

Looks like good news for the future cost of gasoline as the cost of oil begins to decline. It broke support and looks like it wants to be on its way down.

Elon could literally solve homelessness tomorrow. All he needs to do is sell his stake in the companies he created from the ground up, crashing the price and evaporating his wealth as well as the savings and pensions of workers globally.. handing the control of these companies over to short term profit interests and preventing any long term vision from being enacted.. THEN take whatever money that remains which will be nowhere near 1tn and give it to homeless charities who have never solved homelessness anywhere on earth because they’re financially incentivised to do the opposite. Bam - homelessness solved. The reason he doesn’t do any of this is because he’s evil.

The slippery slope is only a fallacy if there is no warrant. That is a statement authorizing movement from the ground to the claim. For example, the Federal Income tax in 1913 was 1% on incomes over $3,000 ($101,000 today), rising to 7% on incomes over $500,000 ($16.8 million today). This affected about 3% of the population. The slippery slope then was that a government greedy for ever more spending would increase the rates and lower the threshold. Even a minimum, honest observation of the history of the Federal Income Tax will reveal the slippery slope argument was correct. Therein lay the warrant to justify the argument that greedy little shits like @BernieSanders , @SenWarren , etc will not stop with billionaires but will move the threshold down and the the rates up until everybody is paying taxes on theoretical "wealth."

Congratulations @ElonMusk. Thanks to SpaceX's IPO, he's the first Trillionaire. He didn't TAKE money from anyone. He CREATED wealth. He launched satellites that connect even the poorest, most remote parts of the world. Our world needs more MAKERS like Musk; fewer TAKERS like:

No, you don't get it. He does not have $1 trillion sitting in cash, it is 99% stock in his companies. To make that wealth liquid would mean selling all that stock which would swiftly destroy *both* the companies (Tesla, SpaceX, others) and the wealth. If he sold it all, he'd end up with maybe $100b max, several hundred thousand people would be out of work, the companies ruined and many of their suppliers also ruined. Okay, but now Elon has $100b in cash, and can "solve the world's problems". $100b divided by the world's 8 billion people is $12 If you were in charge, several of the most innovative industrial companies in the world would be destroyed, hundreds of thousands out of work, and space would again close to human civilization for another generation. But everyone on earth could have one nice meal and you could revel in your altruism.
