#OnThisDay 1996: The IRA detonated a 1,500-kilogram bomb in the centre of Manchester, injuring more than 200 people. A regeneration of the city centre followed the devastation caused by the explosion.

#OnThisDay 1864: The MET and GWR jointly opened a line between Paddington and Hammersmith, now part of the H&C line.
There were only two intermediate stations at the time: one at Ladbroke Grove (seen here) and the other at Shepherd's Bush.
