This is my favorite pic of Elvis. Partially cuz he looks cool. Mostly because my grandma took it. September of 1957. He stopped for breakfast in Cleveland, TX after a show in Houston. Props to my mom @Beckyha72662639 for preserving it. #Elvis45

I think the doomer predictions about AI related job loss are correct with one giant caveat. They only apply to Silicon Valley. The technologists have a myopic perspective and think the whole world is ones and zeros. But that’s their world not the world.

I just had my mind blown. An etymology podcast I listen to (history of English) on the Patreon special edition just said nonchalantly, “you can see the same pattern now in the American south with a word like ‘night’ turning into a word that sounds like ‘not’. Now mind you, he’s talking about a dipthong change in the long i sound from the second and third century and it’s modern and “obvious“ parallels to modern American southern English. I realized that stone sober, I definitely pronounce the word night. And knight. But after a couple pops… Buy gum I think he’s right. I think I say “not“.

I recorded a World Cup song in 2014. It’s like a Time Machine listening to it. Vuvuzelas. Twitter.

I hope all of these World Cup travelers act as mRNA, taking little bits of American dna home and improve where their countries can use it. Press, assimilation, religion, and mostly speech.

And Sweden from the top ropes. This is peak twitter. Swedish gal comes to the us for the first time for World Cup, chronicles her journey with optimism and awe. Hell yeah. I hope she finds a buc-ees, a proper ny deli Reuben, and a packed local pub with live music.

Get on the Freddy train. German dude here for World Cup. Headed to Houston and he is a font of curiosity, whimsy, gratitude, and positivity. I’m rooting for Germany in the cup now.
This is our route for the next few days. Auburn tomorrow, then continuing on towards Houston for Germany’s game. If you have any recommendations for places to stop along the way, let me know!

I had an AI thought this AM. (Adding that disclosure cuz seemingly some number scarily close to zero of my followers care about my AI obsession) As of today, my team is no longer allowed to tell me: “I don’t know” or “I don’t know how” We have paid AI scattered amongst the options. Couple Claudes. Couple open ai. Gemini house account. Urrbody got grok. Plus we are a small group of folks so texting/calling a colleague is always there. Now if they say, “hey that doohickey thing you asked to do, I used Claude and checked blah blah and texted so and so and man we can’t figure out how to do it” then we can put some (AI-assisted) human heads together and tackle it or shift focus if it’s impossible. But if I asked anyone in the office to backup Rockport to the heritage monster…we name our MacBooks after Texas towns and our NAS drives are called monsters…six months ago they could say “I don’t know how” and that would be my problem. I didn’t teach them. But now, it’s their problem cuz ChatGPT knows how. The death of “I don’t know” and “I don’t know how” is a big deal.

I guess I’m late to the party. I watched Soderbergh’s 2011 film Contagion this weekend on HBO. It was well done. In 2020, nerds in suits and nerds in lab coats reflected back on this movie and said, ‘omg this will be so fun let’s play Contagion with earth.’
