The Florida loss is not good. I understand the argument,but I want this to be VERY CLEAR. No matter the Florida result 10-2 Texas that beats Portland St., Montana St., Indiana St., or Ark-Pine Bluff. Playoff team. 9-3 Texas that loses to Ohio State. Not a playoff team.

Sarkisian made it pretty clear at the end of his interview on @SXMCollege that Texas will not continue to play marquee non-conference games until the committee shows losing them is not a detriment to making the playoff. The 2026 Ohio State game feels very much in jeopardy.

Pretty sweet deal Notre Dame has: -Play 2 good teams, lose both -1 win over a top 25 team -Play a bunch of garbage ACC and G5 teams -Get ranked ahead of a team they lost to Great system in place

These are the CFP Principles. Texas is at the top of these criteria more than any team on the bubble.

I’ve been pretty reluctant to the “cancel all big OOC games” because I think it’s great for the sport. Plus, there are obvious benefits ranging beyond just a “resume boost” if you win those games. But with other teams in the CFP hunt purposefully tanking their non-con schedule to avoid any possible threats outside of the mandatory conference games, it makes no sense to continue scheduling the big dogs. The risk clearly outweighs any possible reward for playing those big marquee games. And Especially with the SEC soon to move to 9 conference games, these games don’t need to be scheduled again if there isn’t unity across the rest of P4 contending teams.

Completely agree. All the talk about Miami, Bama, BYU, Texas, Notre Dame etc when it’s really Oklahoma that should be boxed out.
