The signing of the historic Women's Armed Services Integration Act in 1948 allowed women the right to serve as regular members of the U.S. Military and help defend our nation.

This week, we highlight the service of Cpl. Joseph Esparza, who served in the U.S. Marines during the Iraq/Afghanistan War.

Esparza was working for the Texas General Land Office in Corpus Christi before being called up to active duty and deployed to Iraq.
His unit had the primary mission of route security and saw extensive action in Al-Anbar during the war.
