Marriages “lasted longer” back in the day because women were socialised into accepting subjugation, subservience, weakness, financial dependence, and abuse - as a way of life. “Long lasting marriages” weren't a sign of happiness, but they were a symbol of helplessness.

And in my opinion, Even if now children have to witness their parents separating, they'll also witness the resilience and the strength in standing up for oneself. They'll learn when to leave and what not to tolerate, breaking the cycle of suffering.
