NEW EPISODE: On Sept. 29 1968, the Smothers Brothers (with guests Harry Belafonte and Cass Elliot) opened their third season with a fiery episode. The nation in turmoil over a losing war. Censorship battles with CBS. Certainly nothing like today. LISTEN: dts.podtrac.com/redirect.mp3…

This argument goes back to Chevy Chase using his real name on Weekend Update but I feel like this is a very stand-up specific way of looking at the show. I’d hazard a guess that most of the actual sketch trained performers would be quite happy to be recognized as their characters
Jun 10
Tracy Morgan tells Marcello Hernández not to be defined only by his Domingo character on “SNL.” "I want you to go to the 'Weekend Update' desk, and I don’t want you to wear no mustache or nothing. Use your regular name. That’s what Eddie told me. Because you don’t want to be going through the airport for the next 20 years and people call you Domingo. That’s not what your mother named you. When I go to the airport, they go, 'Hey, Tracy.' Eddie showed me how to be a household name. Do your characters; that’s great. But when you do 'Update,' do you." wp.me/pc8uak-1lHkQU

Growing up on MADtv, I thought I’d spend the rest of my life seeing Debra, Nicole Sullivan, Mo Collins, Michael McDonald, Will Sasso, Stephanie Weir, Alex Borstein et al in *everything*. The fact that this did not pan out is low-key one of life’s great tragedies.
I think the reason Debra is primarily known for video games over comedy, TV, and films these days is that she went alt and got heavily tattooed. Makes it tougher to get hired in film/TV. While the game industry welcomes people of all stars and stripes, DW gets to be herself.

Revisiting this tonight. Potentially the best album released by an SNL alum.

I think this’ll be the one to finally win over hearts and minds. “Sure, we’re destroying your communities, livelihood and entire planet with the theft machine but just think about how pre-production might go 5% faster” is the winning message. Good job, everyone. I love life.
Martin Scorsese has joined a generative AI startup as a partner and advisor. He adds that he has used AI during pre-production to help with storyboarding — “with this tool, I can share what I’m visualizing more clearly & efficiently to my creative team — the production designer, art designer and cinematographer.” (Source: nytimes.com/2026/06/02/busin…)

Complex feelings abound about S51 but I do think they pulled off a solid finale tonight. Fun musical choices from Paul, Will was incredibly locked in as host and the Cast List sequel very nearly made me believe this cast as a cohesive ensemble.

Still, I think there’s a lot of heavy thinking about what the show will look like when it comes back that probably won’t happen and things will continue to be messy and needlessly bizarre but whatever, we’ll cross that bridge whenever the strange mechanisms of SNL draw them out.

It’s crazy to think that if Ringo appears with Paul tonight, Lorne has the chance to complete a *50 year old joke*
