How can we fully understand animal #cognition?
Our new paper in @CurrentBiology proposes that identifying what an animal can't do (cognitive limits) is as important as showing what an animal can do. We address the challenges of studying cognitive limits cell.com/current-biology/ful…
Have you ever wondered how bees could help humans develop a language to communicate with aliens?
Our new article in @ConversationEDU explains our thought experiment suggesting mathematics as a universal language.

Congratulations to PhD Rob Moore on his first publication! 🐝🗺️ Rob showed how non-traditional data sources (e.g. social media and community science) can alter species distribution models using a case study on native #Australian#bees. See our article: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
Congratulations to @ZazaKuo on her first publication! Zaza's research explores how space and quantity are associated in the honeybee brain 🐝🔢🧠As it turns out, bees order quantities from left-to-right with a bias for the right side of space.

Our research has been featured in @CSIROPublishing's blog.
Our article encapsulates a decade of comparative research principally conducted in Australia on the topic of understanding how different bee species tolerate changing environmental conditions.

Last week the ICEB Lab celebrated the submission of @lin_yq0527's Honour's thesis 🎉 Congratulations to Yuqing on her incredibly hard work and truly fascinating results. Yuqing has expanded our understanding of plant-pollinator interactions and evolution🐝🌻🪻🌹🌷🪷🥀🐝
ALT An image of nine smiling people in front of a poster of sunflowers. They are making bee symbols with their hands.
Yesterday at 2pm the first honeybee (Apis mellifera) in this species’ evolutionary history managed to pull a string for reward. They are much harder to train than bumblebees, though!
I try to do a lot of science communication, but I've been outdone on my own research here. Way to make research on bees ordering zero accessible and perhaps more humorous than it already was, @ScientistSpidey!
Congratulations to @lin_yq0527 on the final seminar for Honours! 🐝🌻🎉It has been a great pleasure to work with this team!
Yuqing's research will greatly advance our understanding of pollinator flower choice and plant-pollinator evolution.

Awesome presentation by Honours student, @lin_yq0527, discussing the foraging decisons of honeybees at @VicBioCon in the "Flight of the Pollinators" session.

Huge congratulations to @SesaSR02 on her poster presentation at @VicBioCon. This poster represents an immense amount of work that bridges the gap between ecology questions and computer science methods. #VicBioCon24 @AnimAlanDorin
This is the reason we should have all meetings outside! You might get the chance to see blue-banded bees (Amegilla). Of course, then the 3 of us spent 10 minutes trying to capture a picture...
Shout out to all the fabulous collaborators, friends, colleagues, and students I am honoured to work with on International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Keep up the wonderful breakthroughs advancing our understanding of the natural world.
Love this panel discussion title at @VicBioCon#VicBioCon24 - "Not so cute and fluffy!"
I'm always keen on discussions of how to conserve, support, and popularise less charismatic species.
Seems like a good place to push my own publication on this topic: wellbeingintlstudiesreposito…
