After nearly 88 days of internet restriction and almost total blackout in Iran, the partial internet restoration gives the West a chance to engage directly with the Iranian people. "When the internet goes dark, a trusted radio signal still matters. When censorship increases, independent journalism still matters," said Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau, Managing Director of Global Policy at the Bush Institute. "And when negotiations dominate headlines, the Iranian people still matter most." Learn more about the recent update in Iran: bushcenter.org/publications/…

Russia has recently added 17-year-old Alexander Browder to a ban list in the latest round of retaliatory sanctions by the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday over a report he wrote for the Henry Jackson Society think tank detailing Russia’s use of cryptocurrency networks to evade Western sanctions imposed after the invasion of Ukraine. Alexander continues to expose abuses and human rights violations, uncovering the growing sophistication of authoritarian sanctions evasion networks tied to cryptocurrency and financial systems that continue to be exploited. “The Kremlin’s decision to sanction Alexander Browder may be laughable, but the underlying effort by authoritarian states to build nefarious workarounds to Western sanctions isn’t. The CRINK initiative correctly frames this as a long-term strategic competition requiring democracies to modernize how they use economic power in defense of international security and democratic norms,” says Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau. The Oval Office experience located in the George W. Bush Presidential Museum is an exact replica in scale and design of the one in the White House during President George W. Bush's administration (circa 2009). As tradition evolved in the latter part of the twentieth century, each administration redecorated the office to suit the President's personal taste, choosing new furniture, new drapery, and even a grandfather clock as shown above. Each week, our team winds the clock with care, preserving one of the many details that bring this historic office to life.

It’s inevitable that American democratic values are deeply rooted in our entertainment, especially movies. “Some movies show the challenge of power. All the King’s Men, both its 1949 version and 2006 remake, highlight how absolute power can corrupt absolutely, reminding us of the importance of checks and balances on political power,” says Nicole Bibbins Sedaca, the Kelly and David Pfeil Fellow at the Bush Institute. The Bush Institute's Veteran Wellness Alliance coalition with Avalon Action Alliance connects veterans to peer-to-peer networks and best-in-class mental and brain health care providers. Through their mission, they help veterans and first responders heal from the invisible wounds of service. By connecting veterans with life-changing care, they ensure that no warrior navigates these challenges alone. "This community is built on honesty, authenticity, and trust, and I quickly learned that by openly sharing my story, my challenges, and how I have benefited from getting the help I needed, I have opened the door for fellow veterans to get the care they deserve," said Greg Frey, vice president of strategic engagement and partnerships at Avalon Action Alliance Learn more about Avalon Action Alliance today: bushcenter.org/publications/…
