The Chinese authorities detain Mr. Min Zin, a U.S. naturalized citizen originally from Myanmar and the founder of the Institute for Strategy and Policy (ISP), Myanmar, during his visit to Kunming city, China in early June.
The Chinese government subsequently confirmed Mr. Min Zin's detention after he was reported missing on June 3, 2026. He faces allegations of espionage on behalf of the United States and of interfering in the internal affairs of China.
At present, the Chinese government is holding at least 200 U.S. nationals, among whom Mr. Min Zin's case is particularly prominent due to its connection to significant international security issues pertaining to China.
He is poised to be one of the key speakers at an important event later this month, hosted by the Centre for Social Innovation and Foreign Policy in Nepal, where his insights will inspire meaningful dialogue and collaboration. But for now, he is detained in China and facing uncertainty for his release.
