We are one day away from our 8th Annual Cincinnati Project Symposium. Come join us on our website at thecincyproject.org/symposiu… tomorrow to hear UC faculty and community organizations talk about the challenges of conducting community-based research during the pandemic.
We at the Cincinnati Project are proud to announce that our 8th annual symposium will be held asynchronously next month on our website: thecincyproject.org/symposiu….
Stay tuned for future updates on the symposium!
Carolette Norwood: There is a tendency to think of entering and working with communities with a colonial mindset: of an extractive logic, of "doing this for you." We need to be aware of how colonizing logic guides our actions as researchers.
Ashlee Young: As community partners, as researchers, we have to ask, "What risk are we willing to take to ensure equity?" Sitting at the table is not enough. Systems are made of people, and people have to take the risk to do the work.
Renee Mahaffee Harris: Research can inform solutions, but using voices, engaging community itself may not change the fundamental structures that are causing the conditions of inequity. We all know the data, but we need to engage structures. Structures are linked to resources.
The first session of the symposium is happening Featuring some of our amazing community partners discussing the challenges/opportunities of doing community partnered work, from a community-partnered perspective. What do researchers get wrong? Here from our community experts!
