I cook some, do laundry, and when possible, a little writing. I repeat when necessary. Currently reside in the Chinatown section of Curve Lake First Nation.
Every time I go up and down the stairs, something mysterious always happens. I get a twinge in my ankle, or my knee, or my foot… The thing is… it travels. A parasite maybe? Should I be worried?
A friend of mine got angry when she heard one of my plays replaced ROMEO & JULIET in Grade 11. “Kids need to know about Shakespeare!” Some time later she casually mentioned “nobody actually knows who Shakespeare was?” Funny huh?” Then who are they to know about?
Today in 2008, Prime Minister Stephen Harper made an historic apology to the First Nations of Canada regarding residential school abuse in which children were isolated from their homes, families and cultures. Like in an abusive relationship, an apology is only a good beginning.
Hey, I just won an award! And from the Library And Archives Canada too! I can't tell you how many hours of my life have been spent in libraries. The Dewey Decimal system was my Periodic table.

Heads up people in the Thunder Bay Area. I’m coming into town tomorrow for an appearance at the local Public library. We’ll all laugh, we’ll all cry, we’ll all have a collective cathartic moment.
My air popcorn maker is broke. Tried making popcorn the old fashioned way, in a pot with oil. It's been a while. I had forgotten the collateral damage involved. I lost maybe a quarter to a third to burning or mis-popping. And it was slightly oily.
I blame AI... somehow.
Last night at the Blue Jays game, they kept playing short bits of music to motivate the crowd. Lots of fun, except that one where at the end everybody yells “CHARGE”! If I remember correctly, that is what the cavalry used shout before attacking. I kept ducking when I heard it.
Wearing my golf shirt from the world’s most northerly Golf Course, Inuvik. There the unique golf hazards include polar bears and ravens that steal your balls thinking they are eggs.
One of the weirdest requests of my career- a social worker consulting on a production of ONLY DRUNKS AND CHILDREN TELL THE TRUTH wanted the director to ask if some of the funny lines could be cut. Since it was about the Scoop Up, she felt it deviated the audience's focus.
Okay...
Was at the Farmer's Market today, say this guy pulling a little wagon. In it was a very comfortable looking dog, possibly of a Collie strain. Me wonders if the Inuit have been doing it wrong all these centuries.
Today's example of Irony. If I'm to understand it properly, the potential separation of Alberta from Canada is being stalemated by Treaty First Nations. Cool. I wonder what Crowfoot and Big Bear would have to say about that?
Today in 1671, French claim possession of lands "from the northern and western seas to the southern sea, including lands yet to be discovered" in ceremony at Jesuit Mission, Sault Saint, Canada.
Poutine was invented in celebration.
Got another email from a teacher studying my play COTTAGERS & INDIANS, afraid to let her ‘white’ students read the Indigenous character’s lines. Might be rude or racist. I have no problem with it. School is where you learn about unconventional modes of life. Like algebra.
Today in 2019, a Canadian government inquiry find deaths of over 1,000 indigenous women and girls over decades who have been murdered or are missing a "national genocide".
My coffee just got a bit sour.
Watched THE BIONIC WOMAN today. She was casually showing some technician a photo of a human skull she found "just down the road at an ancient Indian burial ground." They left it at that and the story moved on. Ah, the 1970s where everything was treated so casually.
Today is National Indian Citizenship Day in the US. In 1924, the Indian Citizenship Act granted citizenship to all American Indians born in the U.S.
In Canada, our so called 'citizenship' didn't take place till 1960.
Bureaucracy, arriving in the 1490s, sure takes its time.
Irony-my life long buddy. In Grade 5, my teacher wanted to send me for medical tests for possible cognitive difficulties because my handwriting was so poor. In Grade 6, I was not allowed to use a pen, only a pencil, because of bad handwriting. Now I don't write, I word process.
I am at a farmer’s market, surrounded by Ethiopian, Tibetan, Mexican, Jamaican, and Turkish food. That’s means a lot of multi-cultural farming around here. Sometimes bacon and eggs get a little boring.
