Is 2024 a turning point for transit in Metro Detroit?
From a new legislative caucus to pilot programs, there’s definite progress.
But the ghosts of leaders that represented our divisions still haunt us through policy. overcast.fm/ IvzZNoaC8
Good to get many of us in studio, together, at the same time, for the first time in a long time. Ep drops tomorrow on the Michigan Central hotel; Olga’s nostalgia; and the impact of the “introvert economy” (example: most
popular dinner reservations have moved way earlier).
This is a special moment for this team and this city. We can now say it’s not the Same Old Lions. Division title, playoff win. It hits us long time fans in the feels.
The roads are really awful. It’s so much it’s overwhelming the windshield wipers. Had to pull over in Ferndale. Do not go out, Metro Detroit and get caught in this like me. It is in fact the bad snow storm.

“Let’s add and expand the People Mover to destinations like here (Motor City Casino) … also (BRT) services into the neighborhoods… the US is catching up to the rest of the world in Bus Rapid Transit.” - Michael Griffie, AECOM #DPC24
“Let’s get serious about how we pay for it. No city with serious public transit does it this way (through property taxes) … Creating World class public transit is our moonshot.” -Michael Griffie, AECOM #DPC24
“The data is staggering… in almost every category. It was eye opening for me,” says Linda Apsey, head of ITC Holdings about what the state is facing. “They’re deep deep issues … we have to start by defining the problem.” #DPC24
(This is what I’m talking about.. stuff that’s just “the air we breathe” for us a younger cohort on social media is new news to most in Michigan). I can’t tell you how square one this conversation is for some, despite the TweeterThreadiFaceTikkerverse. #DPC24
Conversation with the Deputy GM of SMART Tiffany Gunter on transit, projects coming down the line, and where transit fits in the growth puzzle. Coming to the podcast feed soon. #DPC24
“Michigan’s house is on fire” says Sandy Baruah of the @DetroitChamber as we are a poorer, older state, among other issues. Big swings in demographics in a relatively short period of time. #DPC24
