Ateneo has announced their acceptance of the resignation of Head Coach Tab Baldwin and Team Manager Epok Quimpo following the deaths of Rene Clert Baterbonia and Divine Adili. Prior to the incident, Baldwin signed a three-year contract extension to lead the men’s basketball program until UAAP Season 91. During a press conference today, June 15, University President Roberto C. Yap, SJ stated that the men's basketball team has gone on outings since Norman Black's term as head coach. Yap added that these activities were merely "team-building" and "conditioning." While Baldwin and three other team officials did not appear before the fact-finding mission by the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group scheduled earlier today, Yap said in the conference that they will turn over all documents for a "full forensic audit" of the incident.

READ: The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) released a statement today, June 14, reiterating their commitment to accountability and justice following the passing of Ateneo student-athletes Rene Clert Baterbonia and Divine Adili. The association will fully evaluate all findings of the National Bureau of Investigation, the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the Commission on Higher Education and urged all the parties to “conduct a speedy and thorough investigation.” No concrete actions have been implemented yet as the UAAP is still closely following the developments, and will refer all relevant information to the seven other UAAP member schools once investigations are completed. The association assures the public that they “remain committed to fostering a sporting environment grounded in safety, respect, and accountability” by enforcing necessary sanctions and reviewing existing systems. The Ateneo Men’s Basketball Team have officially withdrawn from the 19th Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup, as announced by the league through a Facebook post today, June 14. The league stated that the development was confirmed with Ateneo athletic director Emmanuel Fernandez. After continuous discussions with Ateneo, the league's Executive Committee granted the University’s request out of compassion following the deaths of Divine Adili and Rene Baterbonia. Prior to withdrawing, Ateneo only competed in their first game against the Adamson Soaring Falcons. The Blue Eagles will no longer participate in their last six games.
