Past year was hectic, I've learned a ton. Now I'm slowing down but focusing more on what I think matters to me. A year of experiments. Cheers

I wrote a new blog post about my work on mutexes, and it's a great conversation starter for any engineer. justine.lol/mutex/

Last week, I presented a talk at the Rust Paris conference ! @OCamlPro and @HubOpenSource invited me to talk about how we use Rust at @amoamoamo for our cross-platform, cross-application mobile architecture. For the french-speaking, here is a recording: youtu.be/jlfqW0QUDMg?si=DZ8L…

🦀 I'm glad to announce that I've been invited to Rust Paris 2024: it's a talk about how we use Rust at @amoamoamo for backend and mobile, introducing the "core": a Rust library shared between the 3 apps, iOS/Android, which abstracts away network & database concerns for UI devs..

I was inspired to get back to creative programming and webgpu is starting to get some support in Chrome for desktop & Android. So I gave it a go by reviving an old project and porting it to compute.toys, the compute shader version of shadertoy !

- play with the shader and see the code: compute.toys/view/1183 - the rust project dealing with webgpu APIs: github.com/TheLortex/physaru… - inspired by @SebastianLague's slime simulation video - inspired by @TodePond's crazy demos at the amo office last week & your videos. Thank you!

Almost at a point where cross-language span tracing works on iOS and Android on release builds 👨🏻‍🍳👌 The nicest thing is that it's using Perfetto C SDK directly so most of all this comes for free... Props to the ever talented @TheLortex

Attention nouvelle app
7 Dec 2023
Keeping up with your friends doesn’t have to be complicated. But that’s how it feels today on other apps when updates from your crew are buried beneath brands, influencers, and videos of strangers dancing. We believe that sharing your life with your friends should be simple and fun. Introducing Capture by amo. It’s the camera you create — made just for friends. Create your camera by choosing from a range of styles, then get on with capturing daily life how you really see it. No time to check if you look good (you look great, btw). No followers to count. And no algorithms to keep you in the app. Choose to capture in 0.5, superzoom, or frontback mode, then tilt to unveil captures in a feed that’s just for friends. Once there’s nothing new to view, Capture shuts down so that you can get off your phone. On amo, your profile, friendships, feed, and settings are shared across the apps. Trying a new amo app takes no time at all as your info (and your friends!) are already waiting for you.

You are more than a profile pic and a grid of edited photos. You are everything you wear, say, do, and love — a beautiful and chaotic mess that means you’re human. ID by amo is a new kind of social profile that you make with your friends, on a limitless board. No grid to curate, followers to collect, or meaningless story replies. Just you and the crew, sharing what makes you, you. Welcome to amo. Just friends.

Where did our friends go?? The bike rides. The sleepovers. Your first cigarette. Gossiping about your latest crush. Being consoled when they break your heart. Discovering a new city. Re-discovering your own (at 2AM). The hungover brunches. The tears. The laughs. The love. So many of the moments that shaped us were shared with friends. And then those moments started happening online. Posting photos from last night’s party. Tagging your latest situationship. Poking your roommate (whatever that means??). It was exciting and well intentioned, but something got lost along the way. The platforms that were built to bring friends closer together became places we go to scroll through videos… of strangers. We’re entertained, but where did our friends go? We started amo because we believe that friendship still deserves a place online. We’re a group of friends who have spent our lives building stuff for friends. And now, we’re getting ready to share something new for you and your crew. We call it amo. And to us, amo is more than a company. It’s a friend affair, « une affaire d’amitié ». Something we’re making for you, but for us too. Our first idea is almost here. We hope you love it as much as we love making it. Welcome to amo.

If I offered you a job that required you to be in the office 5 days a week, would you take it? I did, and here are my thoughts 6 weeks in @amoamoamo about.amo.co/pov-working-fro…

Yesterday was my last day with Tarides. After a period of part-time trying to build a collaborative and social journal platform, I discovered @amoamoamo's ambitions and decided to join forces instead, as a backend engineer using 🦀

It's been an incredible 5 years working in open source with the 🐫 community, starting with an internship at OCaml Labs in 2018. Don't worry though, I still have plans for Mirage/OCaml in the future 😊
