I’ve always thought his next contract would be way less than everyone is expecting. Seems the only reason he hasn’t re-signed is because he is unsure if EDM can win it all, and he knows taking a huge contract hurts his team’s (whatever team that ends up being) chances at winning

No, it’s not all leverage. Someone posted the rule regarding leverage and it’s all about pushing off of another player to gain height in your jump. Had nothing to do with simply pushing down on a players back (which might be another rule, but it’s not about leverage).
