PSA: Your favorite capper that posts 2-mans and tells you that they hit 50% is lying to you.
Let me do the math quickly for you so that we are all on the same page. In order to hit a 50% win-rate on a two man you need to hit each individual prop at a 71% win-rate. (0.71 x 0.71 = .5041).
Just out of curiosity when was the last time you saw a 71% prop available? Now when was the last time you saw two of them available...at the same time? I'll answer for you...it's approximately basically never.
Why do I bring this up? Well one, it's clickbait so why the hell not. But two and more importantly, the sports betting space is filled with a lack of education and a plethora of marketing. Being successful in this space is not rocket science, but it does take some work and it takes a lot of practice.
Few rules to always remember...
1) The goal is not a higher win rate...the goal is units gained. The goal is to make the most amount of units as possible. I'll ask a simple question. Would you rather your Pikkit show 15% win-rate but 100 units gained, or 30% win-rate and 50 units gained. I for one will take the 100 units gained please and thank you.
2) Follower count DOES NOT correlate to success, it correlates to marketing. In today's society we correlate success to exposure when in reality those two things often do not correlate with each other. Do some due diligence before you start throwing a percentage of your paycheck on bets posted by some excellent marketer.
3) Please for the love of God, stop betting because you think something is going to happen. I thought I was going to be a stud college basketball player...turns out I'm only 6'4" with a 35" vertical and an average at best jump-shot. My home was the bench, not the All-Star game.
4) I can't stress this enough...if the person you are following does not actively show you their Pikkit or have it linked anywhere for you to see at any time...DO NOT even engage whatsoever. Now this one is tricky because there is a gigantic amount of asterisks here. Some states don't allow certain books, lots of people are limited on the books, some books don't show on Pikkit, etc. Okay fine you got me, but the point is that if you cannot verify that the success of the person you are following is accurate...I'm going to take a wild shot in the dark here and say that there is a reason for that.
These are just a few simple rules and I left the big ones out like bankroll management, etc. because everyone talks about those. Like anything in life, it is important to dive in to what you are doing, but responsibly. Maybe you need to play with a 0.5% unit size instead of 1% in the beginning so that you can learn by being a part of the game, but you aren't destroying your bankroll on the inevitable mistakes that you will make. The most successful people in this space make mistakes all the time, it is the ability to learn from those mistakes, mitigate those mistakes going forward, and put yourself in the best possible position to win that makes them successful where others are not.
This post is brought to you by Starbucks Nitro Cold Brew. If only they would let me get a Venti instead of Grande. Love you all.
