Last week, I asked if my back story was something people were interested in reading about.
The answer was a fairly overwhelming ‘yes’ so now I suppose I owe it to you to make good.
To be honest, I’ve struggled with this, so this may be a bumpy ride.

So, I have a question for you readers out there…
I just finished rereading one of my favorite books - A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway. I just adore that book.
Is there a book that occupies a particularly special place for you? A book that really stands out for you as particularly beloved…
I very much appreciated this chipmunk’s support of my nature photography.
I was out with my camera looking for birds. Heard a million of them. Didn’t see a damn one.
This chippy was sitting on the trail and was like “I got you, brother. How’s this? It’s pretty classic chipmunk.”
Yes. Yes it is.
Weekly tradition time: ending the week with some shared joy.
Tell me something good.
What good thing happened in your life this week?
Booked a trip or read a good book, both work. Just something good.
Friday tradition time: ending the week with some shared joy.
Tell me something good.
What good thing happened in your life this week?
Found yourself or found a lost sock, both work. Just something good.
I think the world would be such a better place if people reacted to seeing someone else struggling with something they can’t understand as evidence of their own fortune not of that person‘s failure.
I have a thousands of pictures that I’ve taken while shooting shows over the past few years.
I have a good camera and good lenses. Yet, a whole bunch of the pictures that I like most were taken with an iPhone and a $20 selfie stick with a Bluetooth button.
Pretty sunrise a few days ago.
I have to tell you, my favorite time of day is the hour before the sun comes up. There is just something magical about the window when the natural world is waking up to the new day, but the human world is still asleep.
So, I’ve been… going through some things.
I’ll be doing some talking about it here eventually but in the meantime, I wrote something about it on Substack.

Weekly tradition time: ending the week with a little shared joy.
Tell me something good.
What good thing happened in your life this week?
Caught a beautiful sunrise or got a week of good sleep, both work. Just something good.
I need your joy.
Almost every week for the last 10 years, I have put up a post where I ask people to share one good thing that happened in their life that week.
I missed a lot of weeks this past year while going through things of my own - and I missed last weekend.

On Friday, a person going through Stage IV breast cancer sent me a message saying that they are trying to stay positive and reading people’s ’one good things’ helps.
I didn’t see their message until today.
I’d like to give them One Good Thing today.
All I need is your joy.

Share something happy with me. Something that made you feel good or lifted you up recently.
It could be seeing a bluebird or flying off to a dream trip.
It isn’t the magnitude. It’s the joy.
Just something joyful no matter how small… because joy is never small.

The very last thing I said to someone I loved dearly as they lay unconscious before passing away was: “Just let us know you’re out there somehow.”
And then she did.
A while back, someone shared a story with me about how they also found connection with someone they lost.

The story stuck with me, so I wrote about it.
You can find the it via the link in the next post.
Separately, I’m struggling mightily to afford writing at the moment. Your support would mean the world right now.

Whether one-time or via a subscription, a few bucks would make such a difference now more than ever.
Support options are at the bottom of the story.
If you’ve ever lost someone, this story might be for you…
