In 2016,
@CodyRhodes posted a photo to Twitter that shared his checklist of wrestlers he wanted to face and goals he wanted to achieve. It’s been almost a decade, and today he’s at the top of the mountain of professional wrestling. He bet on himself and it’s inspired me to do that in my own way.
When I was a teenager, I fell in love with the art of music videos through watching
@BAM__MARGERA . His directing work on videos for bands like HIM, CKY, and others inspired me to set the goal for myself to one day become a music video director.
In 2011, that dream came true as I began a chapter of my career that, in hindsight, was the single most important time of my life as an artist. Between 2011 and now I’ve been on the team for over 30 music videos, most of which as director, for bands like
@TheTownHeroes,
@TheStanfields,
@lovietmusic, and so many more artists. We had viral success, won multiple awards, but most importantly: we got to marry our visuals to the soundtrack of so many incredible Nova Scotian musicians.
Today, I sat down and made a dream list of bands I want to do just that with: create the visual marriage to their music.
Is this a “never in a million years” list? Ya know what, it could be. But here’s the thing: if you don’t ask, you’ll never know, and if you don’t try, the impossibility is guaranteed.
This is my personal dream list of musicians I want to direct a music video for over the next few years. Like Cody Rhodes, I’m going to bet on myself and take that leap, regardless of the anxiety and self doubt standing in my way.
Thank you all for the support of the road we’ve already travelled. I’m beyond excited for the possibilities of the road ahead.
