An Update on Subliminal: Episode 1
Hey everyone. We want to be very upfront and transparent with you about what’s happening with Subliminal’s release.
Development of Subliminal: Episode 1 was content-complete in December. From a gameplay and feature standpoint, the episode is finished.
However, after an internal assessment by our publishers, Gone-Shootin and InfiniFun, they have decided to move and set the targeted release period to March 2026. Our publishers have decided that they need additional time on the publishing side before launch, regardless of the game’s content completion this December.
Specifically, this time is being used for:
- Extended QA testing beyond what was originally planned, and beyond our in-house teams.
- Localization work for multiple languages.
- Optimal launch window selection, citing that December is generally a poor time to release a new title with competition from heavily discounted AAA and AA games.
In our State of the Game update video, we mentioned that we were certain of a 2025 release, and that was stated in good faith. A 2025 release had been reviewed and approved by our publishers at the time, and it was considered a reasonable and achievable timeline by everyone involved.
We understand how frustrating it is to hear about a date being pushed back when the game itself is done. We definitely feel that frustration too. At the same time, we must be honest: once a publishing agreement is in place, final release timelines are decided by the publisher, and in this case, they are prioritizing launch support and polish over speed, which is something we ultimately respect.
Because of this situation, we didn’t want the extra time to go to waste on our end. During this period of additional time, we’re putting together some extra in-game content for you guys called The Archives.
The Archives will showcase the world of Subliminal’s unused environments, music, lore, and other concepts that didn’t quite make it into Episode 1. A sort of museum of unused assets. The Archives will be unlocked upon completion of a specific task that we’ll leave for you to discover when you play. We hope this gives something back to you all for the extended wait without compromising the main experience we’ve already developed. This content is coming directly from us here at Accidental Studios because we now have time we didn’t originally plan for, and has been approved on the publishing side as well.
We are confident in Subliminal and confident in the work we have done. We are told that this additional time is necessary for a suitable and strong release, and we must respect the publisher’s wishes in that regard. We will go through additional QA, localization, and polish in tandem with our publishing partners, supporting their work throughout.
We appreciate everyone who has stayed with us, supported us, and held us to a high standard. We all want one thing for this community, and that is to create meaningful, memorable experiences for years to come. We will continue to be direct with you as things evolve behind-the-scenes.
Thank you all for your patience, your trust, and for believing in Subliminal and Accidental Studios. We’re dedicated to finally getting this game out to you all, and we can’t overstate how much your support means to us. We wouldn’t be here without you.
