We paid ₦1.2 million rent in our compound.
For years, nobody complained because we thought that was the normal price in the area.
One day, the landlord unexpectedly visited the compound, and the man nearly fainted.
He started asking tenants how much we were paying.
Each person said ₦1.2 million.
The landlord looked confused.
"What do you mean ₦1.2 million?" The landlord said, with a look that'd make you pity him.
Turns out the caretaker had been collecting ₦1.2 million from every tenant and remitting only ₦500,000 to the landlord.
Now the landlord is saying he's not responsible for our missing ₦700,000 those past years. The caretaker is also denying everything.
