"I feel compelled to be among the many people who are working to advocate for Indigenous youth, improve their wellness and ensure that our communities and our cultures are in the conversation and have a permanent place at the table." - @DrMushquash#BellLetsTalk
Through the Integrated Youth Services Initiative, Dr. Christopher Mushquash and his team are studying how to best deliver mental health services to help Indigenous youth.

Just finishing up the Youth Summit hosted by Communities Building Youth Futures. I alway appreciate time to share some space with young people and how to better help support them.
Another family member was called home. My brother Trevor was taken from us in a very undeserving way. Nothing should have led up to another person taking another person’s life.
I’m still in shock and processing it. I’m going to miss my brother a lot.
Our community lost another strong and influential person.
I’m going to miss my mentor (Shirley Bighead). Like my dad she has given me the tools to continue forward in however I’m defining that. I hope I can continue to do right by them and their teachings.
If you had some time today the Saskatchewan Integrated Youth Services is having a Webinar on Community Mapping and the Importance of Youth Engagement in an hour. Link in the bio.

We celebrated my dad’s life today. It was healing to hear about all the people he was able to reach/share space with.
He was pillar in the community. I’m always going to be thankful and proud of him for all the work he has done. Glad to have had the privilege of being his son.
I’l always miss you dad and I’ll try to continue to make you proud with all the teachings and gifts you have given me throughout my life. I’ll see you later.
- From your boy, Clifford.
Just landed in Canada! It was a healing and grounding experience being at the #iaymh conference. Really glad to have had the opportunity to connect and reconnect with everyone there. Not home yet though and my group of youth are already messaging me! Gotta hit the ground running
That was an unprovoked prejudice comment. Sometimes I feel really jaded by the comment sections in these news articles that relate to indigenous people.
I just have to remember to keep doing me in the spaces I share with folks.
Join Elora Watson & I on March 29th, 6:30-7:10pm ET for our webinar focused on equitable, meaningful and sustainable youth engagement in health research. You can register here: shorturl.at/fopGM / I encourage you to also check out the other great sessions in this series.
I was listening to a lecture last night that Murray Sinclair did a few years ago. He referenced Thomas King’s book a few times so as frustrating it is to hear and read about the challenges indigenous people and communities faced I’m going to give it a go.
The Saskatchewan government is finally moving towards developing an Integrated Youth Service model!
There is a call out for a backbone organization to administer the work but I’m just hoping my community can be 1 of the 3 sites they plan to open.

I feel I’ve been talking about this for years now because it’s my second biggest concern. Communities have done great work and continue to do so but sustaining that progress long term has always been a challenge. At least with this it starts to address some of the challenges.
