This is the problem with anything becoming federalized. Like, the cat’s out the bag and there’s no way to restrict anyone celebrating it in ways that don’t serve the history of the holiday
i’m sorry majority of yall didn’t know what juneteenth was until it became a federal holiday and an excuse for parties with afrobeats, dembow, etc. instead of acknowledging it as a black american holiday that texas the south have been celebrating for decades.

I don’t think all cults and propaganda is bad. I just recognize it for what it is (sometimes a sneak will get me) and I don’t pretend I’m above it, or I can’t be convinced. I still carry over some practices I learned growing up as a Christian because I like them.

I’ll never tithe 10% of my paycheck to a church again. However, I still “tithe” 10% by donating to my local food bank, animal shelter, and a DV shelter. I won’t sit in a church listening to a preacher for 2-3hrs a week, but I volunteer at my local community center 2x’s a month.

I wear the same South Carolina top when my girls play for “good luck.” I say “bless you” when someone sneezes. I don’t answer when someone whispers my name and asses entryways. All of it is cultish behavior, but also cultural and not damaging, so I ain’t stopping. 🤷🏽♀️

The average person works in an “at will” state, doesn’t have worker protections, and doesn’t belong to a union. Higher education isn’t filled with tenured professors! It never was. The landscape of higher education, along with every other working sector has vastly changed.

I 100% believe, that y’all (colloquially) believe you aren’t in a cult. The rituals and beliefs ain’t much different. Christianity just has better pr, more members, and how they behave is socially acceptable, but it’s still a cult.
