Dr Montien Kanasawat, director-general of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), said on Saturday (June 13, 2026) that many countries were continuing to closely monitor the Ebola virus disease outbreak after outbreaks of the Bundibugyo strain were detected in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) and Uganda. The disease is a severe communicable disease with a high case fatality rate. Following the raising of surveillance measures under a resolution of the National Communicable Disease Committee, quarantine is required for those without symptoms and isolation for those with symptoms for at least 21 days. #TheNationThailand #TheNation #Ebola #DRCongo #DDC Read more: nationthailand.com/health-we…

The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) has issued an announcement warning relevant agencies and the public to closely monitor high-tide conditions from Monday (June 15, 2026) to Thursday (June 18, 2026), as they may cause water levels in major rivers to overflow into low-lying areas and communities without protective barriers. Cause explained: “strong monsoon” pushes up high tides Monitoring of weather conditions has found that the influence of a fairly strong south-west monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand is a key factor causing water levels at river mouths connected to the sea to rise significantly. #TheNationThailand #TheNation #HighTide #ONWR #ChaoPhrayaRiver Read more: nationthailand.com/news/gene…

Another important issue that both employers and foreign workers must check carefully is that many people still mistakenly believe that, once they enter the country legally and have both a passport and a work permit, they can choose any occupation in Thailand. In fact, the Ministry of Labour has set legal provisions protecting and reserving certain occupations for Thai citizens only under the Emergency Decree on Foreigners’ Working Management, with annexed lists now clearly divided. A look at 10 higher-risk occupations, foreign workers are “strictly prohibited” from doing #TheNationThailand #TheNation #WorkPermit #ForeignWorkers #ThaiLabourLaw Read more: nationthailand.com/news/gene…

An international team of researchers has revealed the discovery of the oldest, largest and deepest “whale graveyard” in the south-eastern Indian Ocean, in the Diamantina Fracture Zone, an undersea system of ridges and trenches stretching across the southern Indian Ocean about 1,600 kilometres west of the Australian coast. The survey was carried out by the Chinese research vessel Tan Suo Yi Hao, together with scientists from Italy and New Zealand, using a deep-sea submersible called Fendouzhe. The vehicle can descend to depths known as the “hadal zone”, between 6,000 and 11,000 metres, to study ecosystems and geology in the deepest parts of the ocean. #TheNationThailand #TheNation #WhaleFalls #IndianOcean #OceanResearch Read more: nationthailand.com/news/worl…

A news report from Government House said Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul had recently signed a prime ministerial order appointing the National Semiconductor and Advanced Electronics Policy Committee. The order aligns with the government’s policy, as stated to Parliament, to restructure the Thai economy so it can grow and compete sustainably, strengthen the country’s growth potential and move beyond the middle-income trap by building competitiveness in existing industries while creating new key economic engines such as digital, AI, robotics, semiconductors, high-value processed food, clean energy, biotechnology, modern automotive, medical and healthcare sectors. Many future industries use semiconductors as important devices and components, making it necessary to attract investment and lay down a sustained and serious strategy to drive the country’s semiconductor industry. #TheNationThailand #TheNation #Semiconductors #Anutin #BOIThailand Read more: nationthailand.com/news/worl…
