Good grief, could this weather be any more dramatic? We go from the mid to upper 70s today to the mid to upper 40s in just 48 hours! Time to bust out the puffier of the coats. Snow levels fall quickly -- we'll see some snow mixed in w/rain. @CODaily #ORwx

Consider wildlife safety in your holiday decorating plans! Fake cobwebs, twinkle lights, and other hanging or dangling items can cause entanglement issues with wildlife such as birds, rodents, and deer. 🦉🕸🎄 #holidaydecorations #wildlifesafety

Many generous people have been asking how they can support Oregon's wildlife right now. Central Oregon is in critical need of rescue and rehabilitation resources for birds of prey, including eagles, hawks, owls and falcons. thinkwildco.org/support-us/r…

This young big brown bat fell from its roost in a Sunriver homeowner's roof. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to intake bats right now due to #COVID19 restrictions. (1/3)

Common misconception: “COVID may have come from a bat in China, therefore all bats are bad." These restrictions exist bc little is known about this virus and potential for spread. North american bats are already extremely vulnerable and in decline. (2/3)

While difficult, these restrictions exist because #oregon wants to prevent harm to our treasured bat populations. The bat did not make it, but we appreciate the homeowner's concern, compassion and interest in the bat's welfare and understanding why we couldn't rescue the animal.
Some days in wildlife rehab are harder than others. Yesterday we got a call from Madras about a very young, emaciated fox whose back legs didn't appear to be working. The "finder" guessed that it may have been trapped in a fence for some time.

One of our rescue volunteers drove out to meet the finder around 9 PM, and the next morning, at 6 AM, our volunteer veterinarian met us to take X-Rays. It appeared that the fox had a severe spinal injury, and so we made the tough decision to humanely euthanize.

Although not always the outcome we hope for, we are thankful that we could prevent this little one from suffering further. ❤️
