BREAKING: California Governor Gavin Newsom has sent a public records request to the Florida Department of Education, as well as textbook publishers, to see which publishers Florida asked to change their school textbooks about race and other historical subjects.
- This came after Florida rejected 30 % of all Social Studies books that were proposed to the State's Education Department for next year.
- Newsom's request was sent because of his concern that publishers of textbooks used in California's schools may be edited because of Florida's new requirements.
- "Parents have a right to know whatโs happening to undermine kids' education," stated Newsom's office.
Once again, I feel that vague laws in Florida may be having a chilling effect on books that are merely teaching history and the impacts of racial division.
Teaching about race and the issues that specific races faced in the past that could lead to problems in today's society, is something I want my children to learn about.
How about you?
