Comrades Marathon Guarantees Entry Fee Refunds in Case of Event Cancellation The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to runners by ensuring that all entrants will receive a full refund of their entry fees if the Comrades Marathon is cancelled due to adverse or severe weather conditions. Through its partnership with its insurance underwriters, iTOO Special Risks, the CMA has secured comprehensive Contingency and Cancellation Insurance - also known as Event Cancellation Cover - to safeguard both participants and the organisation against potential losses arising from an unforeseen cancellation. As one of South Africa’s premier sporting events, the Comrades Marathon demands extensive planning, logistics, and coordination. However, the CMA recognises that circumstances beyond its control - such as extreme weather - can sometimes force the cancellation or abandonment of an event. Factoring this risk into both event planning and insurance coverage ensures greater resilience and fairness to all involved. This policy provides security and peace of mind for runners and organisers alike. The CMA believes that no athlete should lose their entry fee or miss out on the chance to fulfil their dream of running the Comrades Marathon due to conditions beyond their control.
