Meanwhile here the Elder is telling us hunger is biblical...ah mxxm.
An electric train would take 3- 4 hours plus stoppage to get to Livingstone. About 6 hours plus stoppage to Samfya. New hotels and other facilities plus electric train towards Samfya will definitely turn around the economy of Luapula, contribute massively to Zambia's tourism potential and job creation.
One of the key impediments to tourism growth is infrastructure such as transport. As per available data, in 2011 Zambia received 906,000 tourists and pocketed $146 million in tourism receipts. While in the same year, Tanzania received 795,000 tourists and pocketed $1.5 billion dollars in tourism receipts. This was before the trains, imagine now.
Zambia has the lowest tourism receipts in the region compared to other countries with similar tourism potential. So yeah, we are not doing much as a country because our leaders are focused on politics instead of reforms and making things better.
Meanwhile, a few months ago Tanzania had to switch off some power stations due to excess power capacity. Of course, they are still investing in the grid to get electricity to everyone, however, they had excess load for their current grid.
