If commander could weather the bans/unbans from the past couple years⦠the collector side of magic can weather gold border reprints as legal in eternal formats.

Can someone explain the MTG policy lore to me: why are gold borders still officially banned in Commander? I feel like I'm missing a piece of the puzzle.
Card backs don't matter anymore, so is it a Reserved List thing? I genuinely want to know.

People asking about prepared cards being game changers in commander. Well, some of the prepared cards are literally casting banned cards. What does this mean? Nothing, it means nothing. We already have Garth. Tokens/copies arenβt counted to deck construction.

If we treat tokens and copies of spells as the cards they mimic, you could technically make your deck illegal midway through a game. Make a copy of a permanent you own? Copy a spell? 2 of the same card in a deck. Illegal, straight to jail, game loss!

Dusted of the old Child of Alara deck to play at the LGS last night. Everyone laughed, salt was highβ¦ board states were destroyed multiple times over. After many agonizing turns I was able to mazes end out. Itβs a fun deckβ¦ but maybe only fun to play twice a year.π

Hot take: Cedh has a draw issue because the tournament prizing structure. Iβm incentivized to draw my way into a final game where I can win a card/cash. Now if the final card/ cash payout was dependent on my record β¦ I might play differently. π€·ββοΈ

Now this sort of tournament structure isnβt as fun as a win a dual, but it would create a different play experience. F2F cedh events already does win event tix per round and you can see the difference in game play. Not saying throw out the old systems, just experiment!

Treat Ral like you treat a Kβrrik or Gwenom. Ralβs in the class of βuntap and winβ. Historically these decks suffer because we donβt let them untap and winβ¦. Why are we giving Ral special treatment?
