Whenever we talk about camper vans, the argument is always the same... 'plenty of cheap hotels in Thailand, why bother'. It's not about the money, it's the lifestyle.

Almost non-stop rain on the Anadaman coast, and Krabi suffered badly yesterday. It's likely this car (and many others that suffered a similar fate) will be cleaned and repaired... then sold on. Water and high-tech electronics don't go well together, and a flood damaged car can cause a world of pain. Flooding is a big issue in Thailand, so check for flood damage when buying a used car. One easy check is to fully extend the seat belts and look for water marks.

People have asked me where to find out more about camper vans in Thailand. There are a number of Facebook groups that cover everything. Find out about building, buying, aircon and batteries... it's all there. Facebook groups are also the best place to get info about parks, and honest reviews. Lots of ideas and inspiration for you.

If you have money and don't want to mess about building a camper van, I'm seeing more and more of these in Thailand. Often retired Thai people, just wandering around Thailand. On a side note for Westerners with a dream, this could be an interesting discussion with immigration.

This would be an interesting (and rather unusual) camper van project. There are lots of old passenger vans for sale in Thailand. The gripe always used to be, they are too hot to sleep in. Now, thanks to advancing battery and aircon tech, it's not expensive to fit an efficient aircon system into a van... people are even fitting SUVs with aircon and sleeping in them.
