The industry needs to start taking Relativity Space seriously again. They were absolutely cooked, financially, a few months ago. Bankruptcy was a distinct possibility. But with $1 billion or more from @ericschmidt they are now a player again in the US rocket wars.

ELON: I THINK THE FUTURE OF SPACEX IS REALLY GREAT On September 28, 2008, the day SpaceX reached orbit for the first time: “This is one of the greatest days of my life, and I think probably for most people here. We've shown people we can do it. This is just the first step in many. Ultimately, we're getting to Mars. I think the future of SpaceX is really great.” Source: Return To Space, Netflix, 2022

Here's to 10 years of Falcon 9, and some free advice. Never be too busy to walk outside to take a group photo with your friends.
The tenth anniversary of the Falcon 9 rocket is coming up Thursday. We'll have a long feature tomorrow morning—those first couple of flights were wild and woolly. But success sure felt good...

Space laser comms company Mynaric announces that Hans Koenigsmann has joined its supervisory board. Koenigsmann, employee no. 4 at SpaceX, recently retired. Nice historical note: Mynaric CEO Bulent Altan worked for Hans, in avionics, during the Falcon 1 days at SpaceX.

13 years ago, today, the Falcon 1 reached orbit for the first time. It almost didn't. Weeks earlier, the rocket imploded during transit. This is a photo of that singular incident, with Flo Li supporting Zach Dunn, inside a C-17. The whole story: harpercollins.com/products/l…

Reason one: It's bid was twice the price. Reason two: It's demonstrated technical competence, compared to SpaceX at present, is low.

Most of Blue Origin's legal complaint surrounds the fact that SpaceX doesn't have to perform a Flight Readiness Review (a formal, long meeting) before every uncrewed Starship launch for a Moon landing mission. Ok. But the reality is that Blue lost for two simple reasons.

It’s a great book! I highly recommend. Fun hearing accounts from so many different employees. Helps put into perspective just how crazy the early days were and how close they came to failing

Bob Smith's plan may be to create enough paper to stack legal documents from here to the Moon. Blue Origin attorneys only need about 4 trillion sheets of legal paper. We shall call it the Human Lawyer System.

It's cool that Walter Isaacson is writing an authorized biography of Elon. But I'll always admire @ashleevance for writing a definitive bio of Elon back in the day, without access for much of it, and doing a hell of a job. Inspired me to cover SpaceX and ultimately write Liftoff.

Boeing Starliner statement from late 2019 aged poorly: - We have retired nearly all possible risk ahead of our uncrewed and crewed flight tests - NASA remains the single buyer in this market - we are well positioned to fly our first crew in early 2020 spaceref.com/news/viewpr.htm…

My goodness. Did the grocery stores in Seattle run out of sorbet or something? Bob Smith sure seems like and angry man.

Take a tour of @SpaceX's Starbase factory with the ultimate tour guide, @elonmusk! It was INCREDIBLE to pick his brain for over 2 hours while walking around checking out Starship hardware! He even made some design decisions IN REAL TIME! Enjoy part 1 of 3! youtu.be/t705r8ICkRw
