A migrant male eastern samamisicus redstart at Lake Langano Ethiopia / due later in Serbia or across the Drina in Bosnia or in a linden behind the beach hut that Chekhov had at Gurzuf in the Crimea. Heartbeat of my Greenery:

Back to the wet flats - 51 little egrets on Burwell Fen and 250 autumnal lapwings… one croak from a reed warbler and a bitter shandy to wet my lips.

I haven’t stopped thinking about this poem since I read it a few days ago in The Poetry Review @PoetrySociety. A wonder.

Gulls I think - large white hyperborean types (herring and g b b gull) that were until the mid C20th unfamiliar inland even to naturalists like Gilbert White and John Clare.

Am still keen to hear from more patch birders, particularly those from less well represented groups e.g. female, age <40 etc. Am also looking for people fairly new to patch birding. If you're interested, get in touch either via DM or through the contact form on the website.
Are you a patch birder in the UK? Would you like to participate in a research project about patch birding? The project focuses on environmental change, well-being, low-carbon birding, and new technologies. Find out more here. @PatchBirding @BirdingClimate andrewjwhitehouse.wordpress.…
