For the @latimes, I reviewed the Cannes prizewinner THE LITTLE SISTER, a coming-out drama that's as much about learning to love yourself as it loving someone else. latimes.com/entertainment-ar…
THE DEATH OF ROBIN HOOD is full of atmosphere and ambition. But it's also another "Hey, what if we reimagined this famous character by making him really sad and moody?!?" film. screendaily.com/reviews/the-…

Superb review of Chie Hayakawa’s RENOIR by Tim Grierson for the @latimes.
The film indeed depicts a character “pre-grieving” the loss of a parent but I can’t recall that term being used in a review.

I'm so accustomed to the vibrant 2012 restoration of HEAVEN'S GATE that seeing an original 35mm print last night, with its hazy sepia tint intact, was a revelation. They feel like entirely different movies, and both are exquisite. Thank you, @am_cinematheque and Isabelle Huppert!
Screen critic Tim Grierson picks Clarissa as his Cannes hidden gem:
"It's edited by Blair McClendon... he's worked on films like Aftersun. That movie did a really incredible job of weaving past and present and the idea of memory. That is something that also plays very beautifully in Clarissa," He said on The Screen Podcast.
Isabelle Huppert attended tonight's 35mm screening of Michael Cimino's monumental epic HEAVEN'S GATE at @am_cinematheque in Hollywood. Huppert watched the movie with the sold out crowd and appeared quite moved during her Q&A with @TimGrierson. (1/2)
For KCRW's Press Play, Alison Willmore and I discussed this weekend's big releases, including MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE and SCARY MOVIE (and also THE CURRENTS). open.spotify.com/episode/0KZ…
In honor of the new Death Cab for Cutie album, here are Ben Gibbard's Criterion Closet picks from 2024. Of the more than 400 videos that Criterion has shot in this series, this is the only one in which the person cries. (It's one of my favorites.) youtube.com/watch?v=ZiRJyUUF…
On Friday at 3pm at the Aero, I'll be introducing a screening of COME AND SEE as part of @am_cinematheque's Bleak Week. Greatest antiwar movie, among the greatest movies ever. americancinematheque.com/now…
Silly and playful, MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE is a conscientious attempt to make a throwback blockbuster that doesn't take itself too seriously. The strategy very nearly succeeds. screendaily.com/reviews/mast…
"For all its dark comedy, the movie is most cutting when it moves away from the big set pieces and, instead, examines the small ways that employees lose their humanity to a capitalist system that’s out to destroy them."
Tim Grierson, Los Angeles Times
