It's great to work at the interface of hardware, software, and biology, because you can get frustrated by three entirely different kinds of toolchains

Here's my latest on developing an open-source framework for scientific automation. I propose a framework to integrate robots and controllers faster, and do science better 🤖🦠 autobio.blog/open-source-int…

Where are the fermentation-data heads at? Do nice curves exist anymore?

I applaud the intellectual honesty of such a social network

what about an online social network where they mail you a mask when you sign up & the app keeps the webcam on and identifies you by the mask (you can only use the app while you're wearing the mask)

docs.google.com/document/d/1… #seed2023 notes. All talks, all questions. 65,000 words, but there's a table of contents with summaries to help you find things. Pardon typos - I haven't edited yet. Lot of cell therapy this year, lots of machine learning.

Funding agencies will get a lot of cool photos out of distributed foundries as well as cool photos of actual progress being made quickly.

Agencies like spending $ on foundries because the photos look cool. Split that $ across 100 labs and you will absolutely get more done, but no cool photos. So 😬. Let’s push for distributed foundries to get the best of both worlds :)

Here's a good chinese reseller that keeps prices low bc direct manufacturing relations. Lots of similar outfitd on Ali Baba and many on the easier Ali Express. We need procurement re-education, esp when buying the literal same product as OEM. joanlab.com/

But I feel like you don't value your own time and energy as a cost input here, maybe because of your personal truly bananas attitude toward and motivation around science. I would argue that even reagent/supply-cheap data is often expensive

I clicked False and you asked why so: We can now collect 1000s of datapoints for less $ than a grad student stipend. But certainly not all datasets are equally useful or impactful. It’s important to design those experiments tailored to the Q at hand. Random exps are wasteful.

In order to know anything in synthetic biology, you first need a bunch of money so you can collect data #seed2023

"What is the natural role of weak KRABS? Are they bad KRABS?" These are the right questions to be asking at #seed2023
